Ellis-Wales to NC, 1776
I am not researching these people, just entering information from one of my books, "Davie County Heritage."
This article was submitted by William Ellis, Mtn. View, MO:
"The Ellis family in Davie County, based upon what I can remember of things told to me since I was a child - They migrated from Wales in 1776.They could not get immediate passage to America, but had to sojourn in Holland for awhile....When they did get a ship to America it landed at Georgetown, SC and they then came up the PeeDee and Yadkin River and settled on the West bank of the Yadkin about one fourth of a mile south of the ferry that connected Peebles Creek Rd. to Davidson County where the Old Crotts Mill was located. This was a one room log cabin with dirt floor and stone fireplace not more than fifty feet from the river bank....They later built a better house up on the hill about a quarter or half mile west of the original cabin."
"My Great-grandfather, Jeremiah B. Ellis, who lived nearest to the original homeplace was a farmer, trader, and slave owner, but I have no accurate records to work from as to this brothers and sisters.Mr. Lincoln Ellis and his son Wiley who lived in the Cornatzer-Dulin Community and still have relatives there are someway connected with Jeremiah B. Ellis but I don't have the details."
There is a little more information on the writers parents and grandparents which I will enter if anyone is interested.
