1. Joseph Ellis, b. c. 1857 in Runcorn, Cheshire, Eng,,, occupation Iron Smith; Waterman,,, d. pre-1920 in Tacoma, Pierce, WA.In 1877, the family was living on Halton Rd. in Halton, Cheshire. In 1881, the family was living at 7 Travis St, Widnes, Lancashire. The 1881 Census, lists Joseph's birthplace as "Weston", Cheshire. The family seems to have emigrated around 1913, It is not clear if either Joseph Sr or Joseph Jr. emigrated to the US.There is no record of either of them in the 1920 Census.
He married Sarah Ratcliffe, b. c. 1858 in Halton, Cheshire, Eng,,3,4 (daughter of Samuel Ratcliffe and Margaret Pilling). Sarah: 1891 Census says that birthplace was Norfolk, Yarmouth. In 1920, Sarah, age 62, and May, Minnie, Hilda and Mildred lived in Tacoma, WA.
In 1921, Sarah is listed as "widow of Joseph" in the Tacoma WA City Directory. She was living at 911 S. 4th St.
