(Wes) Marsha, where exactly did you find this? I would like to see whatever your source material is. If it's a rootsweb worldconnect source I'd like to contact the submitter.
(Marsha)http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=galeroberts&id=I053242
This is the one that has Hudson s/o Peter dying in 1865. Based on census data, this son is alive for 1870 census.
----- Yes, Gale Roberts site. I contacted her one before but didn't get much. I think I'll try again! I have made a note to myself to pore over what she has again.
(Marsha): http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=teincnj&id=I110744http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=teincnj&id=I110744
This above list his source as Famiysearch.org site. And has the correct parents of Wesley & Phebe Clark.
----- This is the site of Bill Abrams, who is doing a genealogy of Burlington County families. I have communicated with him; he got his information about the Clarks from me!
(Marsha): I was just saying be careful, seems you are the only one that has discovered this 'mix up' of data. Trying to show that one researcher had confused the two Hudson S. Ellis's. Using the 1865 dob of Hudson S. Ellis Clark (on your funeral card)in error??
----- dod you mean. It could be, of course. The existence of this card indicating a Hudson S. Ellis as a "son" of Wesley Clark muddies up the water a lot.
Marsha: The Hudson S. Ellis (bn 1814/1815) presumed son of Peter & Abilgal; was not the one that died in 1865. He is still alive & on the 1870 census.
----- Yes, this is why I'm postulating two Hudson S. Ellises. Why should Wesley son sue him and his wife and on a date after a funeral card indicates his death?
1860 living with his mother. I did not find him on the 1880 census. Soooooo, you now know THIS Hudson S. Ellis did not die in 1865.
----- Yes, see above. He sued Wesley and Phoebe in 1871/1872.
- 1. ) One Hudson S. (Stockton) Ellis was described as being Wesley Clark's son on an 1865 funeral card.
Marsha: ****I would think that this is Hudson S. Ellis Clark, s/o Wesley Clark??? Remember he had the son Oliver H.S.
----- Yes, this would be the fellow described as Wesley's son. However that Oliver H.P. (It's a "P" not an "S" - or at least I have always thought so. Where did you get "S?") is a different person. This is Ollie Clark who moved to Brooklyn, NY with his brother John Wesley (my great grandfather).
Marsha: your first posting, if I remember correctly, mention something about Wesley & Phebe Clark got this land from Peter Ellis. Thats one lead. The second lead is the mention of 'Administrator of the estate of Ralph Dancer' also being sued. How does he tie into all this?
---- I don't know. There are a bunch of Burlington Co. deeds for Wesley and Phebe Clark; apparently they dealt in a number of land transactions in Burlington Co, buying and selling acreage. I have seen most of the deeds - unfortunately none of them cite a parent or a sibling. And some of them involved Wesley as the mortagor and Hudson S. Ellis as the mortagee (or vice versa, I forget).
(Marsha): This one you will have to work on. Bet that the Hudson S. Ellis that is the son of Peter and the one that is sueing Wesley Clark (who had Peter's land) are the same man.
----- Agreed.
But no proof that he is the same Hudson that was Justice of the Peace.
This is what makes genealogy so interesting. I would try to get a copy of the court case. Bet more details will be listed on the originial document.
----- I'm planning a trip to the deed room of the Burlington Co. courthouse to photograph Clark deeds. Maybe there will be a lead there.
