Hi Don...
My great grandfather William (D. - I believe?) Ellis (1858 - 1941) was born in England - I have found him, and my grandmother Nannie Ellis (1895-1981), and of course her mother (MAry Foss - 1865-1930) and other siblings in the 1900 Census in Forest County PA in a small town called Harmony.Eventually they moved to Titusville, PA that my grandmother called home.I still have living relatives in Titusville.
But I am stuck, it is my belief that William came to Canada in the early 1800's with his mother and father. The story says that his father. (a ships' captain) left William and his mother in Canada with a Mr Hill - and never returned. My great grandfather was supposed to have been killed at sea.My great grandmother married Mr. Hill and they moved to Pennsylvania .... but I don;t know when.I don't even know for sure my great grandmother's first name or maiden name.
The 1900 census says that his year of immigaration to the US was in 1866. I have checked several sites in England but still do not have a match.
Any help would be appreciated. In fact, if anyone can look at the Census and make out William's place of birth - it
does have a name and (eng) but I cannot make out what the name of the place is.
Thank you!!
