John,
Your grandfather is Thurman Allen Ellis, he also went by Allen Thurman Ellis. He married Johnnie M. Short on Aug. 10, 1916 in VanBuren County, Arkansas.(I have a copy of his bond, marriage license, certificate of marriage and certificate of record). In 1920 the census shows Thurman and Johnnieliving in Holly, Van Buren Co., Arkansas and they have one son Paul.By 1930 Thurman and Johnnie have moved their family to Royal Oak (Hazel Park), Oakland County, Michigan. In 1930 the census shows Thurman and Johnnie have three sons, Paul A.; Evert C.; and John L., and one daughter Emergine. The census also shows that Thurman's younger brother Robert F. Ellis is living with them.Robert is married, however his family is not living with them.
From what my aunt tells me Evert may have been diabetic and when he had pneumonia he never recovered and died young.
While growing up Paul and John made trips from Michigan during the summer to visit their father's families in Arkansas (Searcy and Van Buren Counties). My father D.G. Horn especially remembers Paul's visit and has just recently asked if I could locate him.
Thurman Ellis's sister Minnie Lee Ellis married Dennis Garland Governor Blane Horn (my grandparents). Please contact me, I would like to exchange family information with you.
