James Ellis, The Strand, London died 1830's
Posted by: Kaye Hayes (ID *****9758) Date: April 25, 2012 at 08:04:19
  of 11945

James Ellis married Mildred Gowin nee Jesson on 11th May 1826 at St Martin-in-the-Field Church, London. He appears to have died by 1838 as his widow moved to Australia where her son and daughter had gone in 1833. She died in 1867 age 91 after 29 years in New South Wales. It is very unlikely there were any children from James and Mildred's marriage as she would have been about 50 when they married. On her tombstone it states she was the wife of James Ellis, Esquire, of Southampton Street, the Strand, London, an Inspector in the Civil Service. Perhaps James had children from an earlier marriage and was a widower?
