From several sources it appears that Samuel ELLIS, who gave his name to Ellis Island, was born about 1733 in Wrexham, Wales, UK, and died on July 11, 1794 in New York, NY, USA. He purchased the island on January 20, 1785. After his death his family did not appear to be very interested in keeping it, and it soon passed into the hands of the government. Does anyone have any information about his birth, his parents, siblings, and when he crossed the Atlantic pond ? Where did he land as an immigrant into the USA ?
