The earliest record that I found was a document in the Court of Common Pleas for Dutchess Co. NY in the year 1743 in which case a Johannes Topper complained against Christ Elliott otherwise called Chris Elliott who then resided in Batemans Precinct which involved a sum of 33 pounds. Chris was to appear next in Court at Poghkeepsie (sic) on the third Tuesday in May to render the 33 pounds. There was also a notice that the Sheriff had found him and referred to him as “the body”. Christopher appears in Dover in 1753 and in Poughkeepsie in 1756 with other Elliotts following.

When the Revolutionary War descended on Dutchess County, there was a split in the Elliott families—to-wit: among siblings, as to their loyalty to King George or the struggling 13 colonies. Several families decided to go north and cross into Canada. For this reason, I am including the Elliott listings on Reid's Loyalist Sons and Daughters, as a finding aid for families who may have had difficulty finding their Elliott ancestors.
