Good luck on saving the old tavern. It really is remarkable that it has survived this long. I too descend from the Elliott's of the Fort Pitt area, not Daniel, but William Elliott possibly of the Bullock Pens. My tree begins in 1771 with Abraham Elliott. Abraham's father, William, and two uncles were trading with the Indians in the 1760's around Ft. Pitt. I have read everything I could find on that early era and still am at a loss to account for pre 1760 ancestry. Surprisingly there were a lot of Elliott's in that area before the revolution. I have seen various "patents" on land for your Daniel as well as mentions of his saw mill and ferry. He obviously was can-do man to have built mills, ferries, and a stone tavern of that size in an area that saw many pioneers living in log cabins. I hope everything falls in place to restore the structure.
