Bob,At least part of your information is correct. As an Elliott I understand the fustration of the Elliot spelling.You must realize there are over 150 ways to spell the Elliot(t) surname.
From Soldiers and Sailors system,NARA.The only listing Union or Confederate.

His compiled Military service record is availible for further study.
The above regiment was formed in St.Louis,MO.and saw heavy fighting.That is a rather long story.The confussion is this regiment was part of the Army of Ohio formed in 1862 under Gen.Don Carlos Buell.The record states he mustered in as a Pvt. and out as a Pvt.. I will look up from another source and get back to you as to his commision.
