Hello Robert
Sorry not to have replied sooner to your message on Genforum, and I would be most grateful to receive details on Francis Elliott's family.
Francis is uncommon as an Elliott Christian name.It is a quite common Armstrong name, however, and I suspect your branch will have Armstrong connections. The only record I have is in the Lists of Freeholders for Co Donegal 1761-75:
Francis Elliott, Cloghroe, [Landlord Basill], 1775.
There are 2 Townlands called Cloghroe - one in Kilmacrennan and the other in Convoy parish. Both these are in the east of the county and not near Ballyshannon, but the unusual Christian name means the families are most likely connected.
I will let you have any other references I come across.
Best wishes, Simon Elliott.
