I just mean my husband's family when I ay 'our' though I do think East Anglia is one of the main Ellingham source areas - there aren't any other Ellinghams in Northumberland although there is an Ellingham village in the north of the county, near Alnwick (pronounced Annick !) His family were there in the 1880s but moved around the country in the 1930s and we have have moved around England ourselves.
People with a place name for a surname will usually have moved from that place - even if only to the next village in the Middle Ages and the name was what differentiated one Tom from another (eg the smith, the red-haired, the cooper(barrel maker) or the one from Ellingham, or wherever)
Good luck with your search - don't forget your other family branches
