Hello, I'm a descendant of Clement and Hannah AUTEN ELLIFF.
I have Eliza's family in 1880 census if you don't have that
as yet, let me know and I'll post it for you. What is funny
is that on this 1880 census McNairy Co Tn the head of h/h is
a Rutha WEBSTER and "Elisa" is the "servant" bn Sep 1864 age
35, children Kinney H.; Arkie B.B. and Ida M are all shown
as ELIFF's, Kinney H. bn Sep 1889, these children are listed
as son, and daughters, normally that means of the head of
household, so GUESS we can tack that on to a census taker
error??.
There is a marriage in McNairy in Bk H Pg 541 for a S.F.
ELLIFF to Eliza C. Murry on 21 Sep 1881.The Solemnizer
was a Curry, makes me wonder if one of the names is a typo.
The only possible Elliff I can place S.F. with at this moment, (I'll look closer after I get off line) is with Everad who was the son of James G. who was the son of John
aand Charity Garrett ELLIFF, James G. being a brother of John O. Sr.Everad had a son name Fred in 1880 age 17, however, this family was in St Jacob Il.Everad was raised
by William KINNEY and his wife, Alia B. ELLIFF, a cousin
of Everad. (Everad also had a younger brother named Wm Kinney, we assume named for this same person) there is info
on McKinley Harrison ELLIFF bn 7 Sep 1889 in McNairy Co Tn
died at age 65 on 20 May 1954.With your family connection
I would see if I could get his death certificate, it is possible that the informant at his death may have known who
his parents were.I can't say that this couple IS his parents, but is a possibility. (I think)! I will be trying to figure out who S.F. was also. this same story also says
that Eliza was thought to be McKinley's step mother that his
mother was named Susan.Inanother note I noticed that someone mentioned Susan Elliff Crabtree, being related, I wonder if somehow the name of Susan was confused in the Elliff book reference.Kathryn Langston
