Deborah,

I'm descended from a Joseph Ellett who was born in VA in 1793, married Rebecca Baker in Washington Co, KY, in 1811 and came to Madison Co ca. 1820-1825. They had children Jeremiah V, Ann, William Jackson, Elizabeth, Sarah, Isaac Sullivan, Absalom Baker, Richard Baker, John Wesley, and Joseph Fletcher. There's no Cherokee connection that we know of.

What are your sources for Amanada Ellett's birth, the treaty of 1817 grant to Joseph Ellett, the 1817 AK immigration roll, and the 1825 deed recorded by Joseph and where can I find them? Are they available online? Why do you think Amanda is a daughter of Joseph Ellett?

I wonder if the Joseph Ellett you're referring to is the Joseph Elliott who is listed in the 1850 Siler Rolls as having had a reservation near Larkinsville? His family's claims were apparently rejected due to insufficient evidence that they were actually of Cherokee heritage. The children listed are David Elliott, Jessie(?) decd., Josiah decd., Mary (Elliott) Vaughn, Mahala (Elliott) Hillian, and George Elliott but no Amanda.

There were two other Ellett brothers that came to Madison Co, AL, ca. 1815 from VA, and had large familes - William Ellett (wife Elizabeth King) and Richard Ellett (wife Kitturah Winn). They both left the area by 1850 although some children remained. They may have been brothers of my ancestor but we're not sure.

Jamie Ellett
