I went to an Ellerbe reunion some ten years ago and I think the oldest graves were not at St. David's but at the "Red Hill" cemetery on land that had been owned by Thomas Ellerbe. I have been trying to prove that Thomas and his brother William were born in what was once Edgecomb Co., NC, on the banks of Stonehouse Creek that empties into the Roanoke River in what is now Warren Co., NC. I haven't gotten very far because the land records in SC say they came from Virginia, but still a John and a Thomas Ellerby did own land there that they sold about the same time just before a John and a Thomas took up land in Craven Co., SC. I think the Thomas who was doing the buying and selling was the one who died in 1750 leaving a wife Martha--but as I say that is speculation! Jane
