Jim,

Don't have sources, but your Henry seems to be son of Esq.Freeman Elkins, s/of John.

Esq. Freeman was b. 1807 in Shrewsbury Vt d. May 11, 1879 in Kent Co. MI and m/ Prudence Carter abt. 1834, b Aug. 26, 1815 in Washington Co. (D/Jedediah and Armilla Weeks Carter) They moved abt. 1855-60 to Kent Co., MI from Allegany Co. NY.

Henry m/ Carrie Van Campen in 1860 (some say in Belfast, Allegany Co. NY), d/Elijah I believe they settled in Sioux City, Iowa.

(Any info you can supply on their children would be appreciated. Am working on the Elkins genealogy book.)

John (Esq. Freeman's father) was b. abt 1780 d. Jan. 19, 1865 his wife was Sarah and she died hours after giving birth to a child in 1825/6 (Source: Rutland Herald, issue Aug. 1, 1826). (Other source says she was named Susan).

He married 2nd Lorraine Jackson, d/Jethro - she is buried in Wallingford, Vt. Her estate was left to John who quit claimed his portion with a Jacqueline E. Elkins in 1840's (pos 3rd wife?). The Jackson family were founding settlers of Wallinford.

In July 2006 I went to the Wallingford town hall and found their house still standing and located immediately next door.

John seems to have worked on a farm in Clarendon and lived in Shrewsbury. Both he and Joseph taught at the local school (still standing). Most believe Joseph has his son (he m/ Elizabeth Plumley) and it's pos both worked at her family farm.

He was listed in 1820c Shrewsbury and in 1830 and 1840c in Wallingford.

There are a few researchers out there who have been researching this line. Mainly the children of John.

I've been trying to tie in John to the other Elkins lines and have gotten nowhere (working on this for some time.

If you had any names that might give me further leads, would love to have them.

Ricky

(a.k.a.
E. Elkins )
