Hi Michael, Below, I am inserting all the information I have on my Elias Family. This is the information I have on my ELIAS family. Family lore states that both the ELIAS and ALSCHER families were originally from Spain. Information I have from a very recent new found ELIAS family member states that yet another family member on a trip to Granada a few years ago, found the ELIAS family name and the date that we left Spain was 1492. The story continues with them traveling to Greece, where they lived for about 100 years. During that time they attempted to return to Spain to extract more of the EL YASH family. After returning to Greece, they migrated to Turkey. MENACHEM ELIAS (Max) my mggf was born in Constantinople, Turkey. He married Rose ALSCHER (Alscheche, Alschehe)my mggm who was born between 1850 – 1861. They were married in Craiova, Romania. Rose’s Father was Simon ALASHECHE (spelling taken from Rose’s death certificate. She died in Chicago, II in 1936.) Rose’s Mother was Esther (nee BLAUSTEIN ). Simon and Esther were also married in Craiova. Also on Rose’s dc, it shows Simon born in Denin, Turkey. I have never found any info regarding Denin. As far as I know, they had 3 children. Stella, Isaac was born in Constantinople and Sophie HANDELMAN (my mgm). Isaac ELIAS b. 1871 married Jenny. They had 3 children. Martin (Menachem Mendel) Seymour and Ruth. I was told by one family member that at one time the name was spelled ELLIAS and pronounced EL YASH, and that they traveled back and forth between Spain, Turkey and Romania. This same family member advised that the ELIAS family had roots in Granada and Toledo, while another member thinks there were also ties to Barcelona. Rose, at some point, was the seamstress for the Queen Maria of Spain (which one)? Family members that I have mentioned this to confirm this information. I have no record of Menachem ever coming to the US, but the rest of his family came in the early 1900s, and settled in Chicago, IL. Stella ended up in Stockton, CA. If you can add any information to the above, I would appreciate it. Notify Administrator about this message?
