Elias Family Genealogy Forum

Thank you for your reply. I wish I knew when he was born, but I believe it to be somewhere in the 1820s as his wife was born in 1830. I am trying to get his specific date of death but so far it has been elusive. Did your GGGgf originally go by the name of Von Elias? I have noticed a Bathisar Elias that was in close proximity to Nicolaus for a while in Wisconsin and am waiting to see if any information from that pans out. From what my mother told me, he left Germany and didn't look back. I am not sure when he came to Detroit, but I am guessing it was possibly in the 1850s as his first child was born in 1860 (my Greatgrandmother). From our family lore, he was allegedly the first tailor in Detroit. What was the occupation of Henry? Nick died in Detroit and I know he was rather elderly, in his late 80s or early 90s and he died after 1905 (I have a family group picture with him in it from around 1905). Looking at the names of his children I am not seeing any "matches" whereas between Nick and Balthisar there are some of the same names for their children. I do know that it wasn't uncommon for the men to leave the country to avoid military service, so I don't think that makes our folks "unique". I am still actively researching this branch of the family so would be more than happy to share any information - it would be really great if we had a match. Again, thank you for your reply and good luck in your search! Vanessa
