Elias Family Genealogy Forum

Ok, my dad's name is David Elias. Recently I read something that said the suffix of a name can determine where it's from (like -son, -sen in Scandinavia and that area, or the -be being slavic I Believe) but I found nothing on -as. Also, I don't know if it could be a town place. I can't ask my dad because he left when I was little. He did however have european characteristics like the blonde hair, light skin, and blue eyes. My mom never asked him, and I'm beyond curious and am finding the name in Terschelling, Netherlands.. belgium.. on here there are jewish connections and spanish things being mentioned.. so many possibilities but I think it's probably over in the Dutch area from the results I'm finding and my looks. I just want to know where the name originated, if there was a flood of that kind of people to New York (near the metro area) ever, and about the name. Also, this thing said the elias coat of arms is a blue backing with an armored arm holding a sword erect, and a set of hands around a fleurs-de-lis. Again I'm confused because blue is associated with the judism, the sword with knight stuff, and the fleurs-de-lis associated with french kings. Please, if anyone can set me on the path to finding out my heritage atleast on my dad's side I would be forever greatful. My mom is adopted so it'll be harder to find her side. Thanks!
-Joe
