My GGG-Grandfather Edward Eley (Elly) Sr. lived at and owned the land at Eley's Ford, so one could presume the Ford belonged to or was named after him. There is a record in one of General Lafayette's journals recalling his crossing the river at Mr. Eley's ford. Edward Jr. married Sarah Jones, daughter of Issac, in 1815 at Fredericksburg, Va. Edward and Sarah had a daughter named Esther who married (c1852)my G-Grandfather Richard S. Jones, who also lived at died at Eley's ford. With regard to all the other Eley's in the area and despite popular belief, I'm convinced that all are connected to the same line. I just haven'thad the time to concentrate on them. I would appreciate any Eley data that you might have.
