I am a black eley and i'm curious about how name.
my grandfather's name was William Ray Eley born 1911 and all I know is that we originated from downsouth. I would like to know how did the eley name come to black people and who are my ancestors. I live in Newark N.J.
As i understand it this name comes from england therefore I would surmise that the last name of the slavemaster was given to the slaves.
