Johannes Stephen Eleazer
Would some kind Eleazer researcher be willing to share the May 21, 1751 South Carolina Gazette newspaper solicitation about Johannes Stephen Eleazer, an Indentured Servant, running away from Mr. Quince? I would love to have the newspaper wording.
Also, any thoughts as to why he ran off?His petition for a land grant stated he was one of those UNHAPPY people who came over on the ship, "Captain Crawford." (Some researchers seem to think Captain Crawford was the captain of the ship but the petition says "...IN Captain Crawford.")
I am trying to determine why the passengers on this ship were unhappy including my ancester, Johannes Stephen Eleazer. Maybe the contractors violated the indentured servant provisions. Apparently Johannes did not serve out the term of his contract as he is granted land soon after arriving. I am assuming land grants were not awarded to indentured servants during their labor term.
