Hi Doug

Not sure if I have corresponded before with you. I seem to be picking up Douglas Eldridges everywhere in different places. I've just e-mailed a message replying to one I found on on Rootsweb to a Doug. I think it is possibly the same Doug but I will post it here too. I have been looking at the Edward Eldridge/Phoebe Hook/ Jenny (Frances) Smith problem, just to try to sort this out on my tree as I realised I had two different Edwards (1762 and 1738) married to Phoebe Smith and yet another (1740) married to Jenny Smith.
I came across a tree that may provide the answer (not sure though) The IGI seems to be ambiguous and we know that there are mistakes, but this tree seems to have gone into terrific detail.
Sarah Payne and William Eldridge had children Robert 1732, William 1741, (both died in first year) John 1723, William 1721, Richard1731, 2 Sarahs on IGI (perhaps one died, haven't found that yet) Thomas 1726, Elizabeth 1728 and Edward b 1838 - could he be the one who married Jenny Smith in 1765?
John (son of William Eldridge and Sarah Payne) married Barbara Wicks and they had Richard (m Mary Mantle) Barbara 1764, Mary 1755, John 1751 d 1833 (m Elizabeth Savage), Thomas 1753 d 1825 (m Elizabeth Hiscock) and Edward b 1762. This is the Edward that is married to Phoebe Smith, according to this tree. The IGI has several dates for this marriage from 1769 to 1788. Of course the first Edward could have married twice but I have found nothing else that points to this. I have children Jenny and Jesse Eldridge for Jenny Smith but nothig for Phoebe. Also there are many entries in the IGI that say that Phoebe was born in 1768 (Even those that state she married in 1769). What do you think?
