I just posted my comment under the "Eldred" lineage. The family myth that's been around a few generations is that there were 3 brothers that immigrated -- one went north (New England), one went south (NC or there abouts) and one settled "just right" -- in NJ or PA. Now perhaps that's all wrong.

We have some Eldridge papers from third quarter 18th century -- a William Eldridge who was a law clerk in 1789 in Phila., and possibly a few others, I can check. The 19th century Eldridges I am descended from were definitely Quakers, but we're not sure how far back that goes.

I not a geneology researcher, but perhaps now I'll start digging, and see how far our papers go. Anyway, if anyone is trying to dig up a Phila-area Eldridge in the last half of the 18th century, I might be of help -- although public records probably exist on most of this information.
