There is a lot of confusion over the ELDRED/ELDREDGE /ELDRIDGE relationship (I am still confused over this point). Primarily, there are ELDREDs from Vermont. What my research has been showing is that originally we were ELDRED (when we came to the Boston area from England), then it got changed to Eldredge or Eldridge somewhere in between, and some family sections have reverted back to Eldred again. As I said, I am still confused on this. I think there is a lot of both. As to whether you are part of the Eldred/Eldridge/Eldredges or a real Eldridge, I don't know. Maybe you have some more info on this.
