Through a letter from my father's Aunt Polly to my mother sometime after my parents' marriage, I have traced myself back, on my father's side of the family, to a William (Bill) Eldridge who had married a lady Martha. Her last name (but I am uncertain of this) was Kimbro. William and Martha had eight children I believe: Aaron Pinkney Eldridge, Ruffin? Eldridge, Dolly Eldridge (wife to Rich Kimbro), Ona? Eldridge (wife to "Doc" Outland), Ruffus? Eldridge, Becky Eldridge, Mary Eldridge, and my Great Great Grandfather Albert Sidney Johnston Eldridge. I believe that William may have served on the Confederate side of the American Civil War since he supposedly had named Albert after General Albert Sidney Johnston, one of the Confederates' best generals, who was a military superior whom William admired. Possibly, William could have been at the great Battle of Shiloh??? If I could prove that, it would a really great fact to know and think of when we fly the Confederate Stars and Bars out of respect to our heritage. Albert Sidney Johnston Eldridge (1884-1939)had married Mary Catherine Calhoun. Both were supposedly born in Calloway County, KY, near Murray, KY. A census record that my great aunt had listed Mary as being born in Kentucky when she was 11 years of age. Anybody out there willing to help me move farther back into time, please contact me at dae5@yahoo.com... Thanx Dom.E.
