There are several Stites families in Missouri that all seem to be connected to one early ancestor. You will often find the Stites name misspelled as Stiles or Stikes. John Stites b. abt 1860 is the earliest we have found. He is found in the 1830 census for Missouri. Samuel Stites appears to be one of his sons. Samuel is found in the 1820 taxpayers list and in land records for Callaway county Missouri. A brother named Isaac is living in Callaway county during the same time. You will also find Samuel and Isaac listed in records for Providence Baptist Church in Callaway County Missouri. Samuel sells his land there and moves to Sangamon County Illinois by 1830. We then find him in Dallas County Missouri between 1840 and 1860. His wife's name is Jane, but she is called Jincy. On the 1850 census of Dallas County Missouri you will find a daughter of Samuel and Jincey's living very close to them. Her name is also Jincy (Jane E.) and she is married to a Barclay. If you would like to email me direct I could get your address and send you a printout of what I have on the Stites family.
