According to a book written by Charles S. Eldridge "Tennessee, History, My People and Me", John Eldridge was born in Guilford County, NC, the 9th child born to Thomas and catherine (Taylor) Eldridge (spelled ALDERDGE on their 1770 North Caroline land deed.
