It is said that the Father of Peter was a Sea Captain, who with his two brothers and their families came from Scotland or Ireland to Maryland and settled there about the time of the Revolutionary War. Captain Eldredge and family moved to Georgia, where Peter Eldredge was born in 1780. When about 18 years of age Peter was converted and licensed to preach by a regular or missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Jessee Mercer. When abut 20 years of age he was ordained by a presbytery consisting of Rev. Jesse Mercer and Rev. Tommy Rhodes, with whom he was associated in the ministry for several years. (taken from D.D.
