Game Warden Found Dead.
Earle Eldredge, son of Hon. George W. Eldredge, and game warden of McHenry county, who disappeared from his home at Richmond, was found dead Feb. 24, on the farm of Burl Abbot, near Woodstock.
The manner in which he met his death is not definitely known. Friends of the man deny the theory of suicide, and the condition in which his body was found tend to indicate foul play.
Early Sunday morning, Mr. Eldredge, with his brother, Charles, started out in a buggy to investigate some charges which had been made in regard to the game laws. Charles decided to return home and Earle continued his journey.
The last seen of him was when he crossed the farm of Mr. Wheeler, 3 miles from McHenry. He had tied his horse and was going toward a small wooded spot. As he did not return in the evening searching parties were organized.
When the body was found it was in a stooping posture, and had a bullet wound through the heart. He had his overcoat on and rightly buttoned. He was also wearing his heavy mittens.
Near the body was a 32 caliber revolver. Whose property this is not known at present. the body was cold, and from all indications death had resulted some time previously.
Mr. Eldredge was 31 years old and was married. He has been game warden of McHenry county for several years. During his term he has had much trouble with violators of the fish and game laws.
