I went hunting on the web and found a Joseph ELDRED who was trying to get a pension for disability in the Civil War. He lived in Bangor, Franklin Co., NY. I went to that site and after "crawling" through many cemeteries found him along with his 2 wives and his father, Joseph Sr. Not my family. Info follows:
ELDRED, Joseph, Private Co. H, 106th Regt. NY Vols. discharged May 20, 1865. wounded July 9, 1864 at Monacacy, MD. (apparently he lost use of his left hand due to a musket ball going through his shoulder)He was awarded $1.50. He was examined at Malone, NY by Dr. Theodore Gay. He lived in or near Bangor, NY and is buried in North Bangor cemetery. Joseph ELDRED Jr. 1839-1923, wife (1) Elizabeth M. 1837-1876, (2) Eva C. 1853-1952.
If this does not help you, maybe someone else can use it. I will go down to Cayuga Co. historian's office as soon as I can to find out more about Joseph B. ELDRED. I believe my Peter ELDRED is the one who was killed at the battle of Cedar Creek Oct. 19, 1864. Good luck, Sally L.
