Nova Scotia Elderkins

Hello-
I am trying to trace my family line back to the great body of research that many of you have been working on.

My GGG grandfather was David Cooper Elderkin, who was born in Nova Scotia on 10/10/1839. He was a soldier in the Civil War and wounded in the Battle of Murfreesboro, TN, before he was discharged, married Mary Jane Finnerty of Joliet, IL, and settled in Iowa where he had five children.

There is speculation that David Cooper Elderkin could be the son of John Kerr Elderkin (b. 1813) or Jeptha (b. 1819), but I haven't found the link. Does anyone have a David Cooper Elderkin on their charts? I have a descendancy chart sent to my grandfather in the early 1990s from Richard F. Elderkin, but the two were never able to connect my family. Thank you!
Susan Elderkin
