Hi David,
I was hoping to find out more about RUSSELL S. ELDER,
age 8 in 1930 census,
so I requested the obituary of his mother, MABEL L. ELDER.
However, her obituary doesn't mention son RUSSELL, just
Mabel's sons from her first marriage to PORTERFIELD.
I'll try requesting the obit for RUSSELL's father:
Fred H. ELDER, who died 20 Jan 1940 in Los Angeles.
Russell would be 18 in 1940.

"Funeral Rites Set for Mabel L. ELDER"
"Funeral services for Mabel Lee Elder, 76, who died yesterday at her Palermo home, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hamilton and Riley Funeral Chapel.
Burial in Memorial Park cemetery will follow the services.
Mrs. Elder lived in the Palermo area for 28 years.
She was a member of the Gridley Jehovah Witnesses Church.
She is survived by three sons,
Jack N. Porterfield, Palermo;
Ted W. Porterfield, Honcut; and
Tracy Porterfield, Reseda;
a daughter, Ivana Porterfield, Chico;
three sisters, Mrs. Edna Dover, Chico;
and Mrs. Marie Newman and Mrs. Grace Nichols,
both of Honcut;
11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
