Mary,
I trace my line back to Erdmann Elbel, who came to TX from Germany in 1849.He was born on 19 April 1826 and died on 7 March 1908.He declared his intent to become a U.S. citizen in Comal County, TX on 17 November 1851.That declaration states in relevant part:"Be it remembered that Erdmann Elbel, a native of Gefall [?] Erfurt, in Germany, aged about twenty-four years, bearing allegiance to the King of Prussia, who emigrated from Bremen and arrived at the Port of Galveston on or about the twenty-third day of May 1849. . . ."This is the earliest info that I have about my Elbel line.I have not yet had the opportunity to attempt to locate the "Gefall".I know where Erfurt is.I guess that it's just a matter of looking through LDS records or making a trip over there.--John.
