Denis, I haven't encountered any Elbel named Jean in my research with the Indiana Elbels, in fact the earliest immigrants from Bavaria all have germanic names (Johann, Friederick,Lorenz, Wolfgang, etc.), and I have not seen any information which links this branch of the family to Alsace.

Do you know where or when Jean entered the country? The Elbels that entered through Texas don't appear to be related to the Indiana group, who entered through New York, unless it is back in Bavaria. There is also a group from Pennsylvania/Ohio, and I'm not sure at this point where they came from or if they are related to my Indiana group.

Can you tell me about Oberfranken?
