Eckiss's in Southern Illinois

Will not enter into the debate on proper pronounciation of the name. Have heard it many, many different ways over the
years.

I am looking for information on the linage of

ENOCH ECKISS (Born circa. 1809 in Penn.)

all the information I have on him is from the 1850 Census of LAWRENCE CO., ILL

(First, the spelling in the Census record is awful and I can't spell so it has to be bad for me to diss anybody's spelling.) I
personally think that the numerous spellings could have something to do with the pronounciation issue though.

The family name is listed as ECKUS

Anyway, His household is listed as follows:

Phebe, age 36, Maryland
Emanual, age 17 Farmer, Ohio
Emaline, age 15, Ohio
Elizabeth, age 13, Ohio
Levi, age 10, Ohio
Mary, age 8, ILL
Margaret, age 5, ILL
Catharine, age 7/12, ILL

Next door is listed
Elizabeth ECKUS, age 65 (Circa 1885) born Maryland

My line is Phoebe Narcissuss ECKISS born July 1852 and married George Washington SHIDLER.

Given the information on the birthplaces, it appears that the family moved from OHIO to ILLINOIS between 1840 and
1842 when Mary was born.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.
