I was looking for Ezell's in the Compiled Service Records from the Revolutionary War (at a regional center of the National Archives) and came across a John Eysell who served in the German Battalion from either Pennsylvania or Maryland. From all the various pay cards during his enlistment, his name was spelled either Eysell, Eisel, Eisell, Eyssell .....He enlisted August 11, 1776 for 3 years in the German Battalion (in what was known both as Captain Philip Graybell's or Captain Christian Myers Company). He was listed on furlough in April 1778, was "sick in Baltimore" in June 1778, and discharged August 11, 1779. He was a private. The notes about this battalion indicated that Congress disbanded them after 1779 and integrated them into the regular units.
