Hello,
My name is Kathy and I've been researching my great grandmother. Her maiden name on her marriage certificate with my great grandfather was Ehley.I don't know if I am any help or not, but thought I would drop you a line anyway. Her first name was Nellie and all we know is that her family was from the Cuyahoga Falls, OH area. She was also 100% Cherokee. At this point we don't know if her mother (Ellen) married or re-married to an "Ehley" and Nellie adopted the last name or whether they were given the name "Ehley" by the government.I have found in my research that Ehley is not as common a name in Ohio as it is in Wisconsin and Minnesota.I've been trying to find out how they got the Ehley name or whether it is an "americanized" version of their Indian name.Nellie would have had to have been born around or after 1871.She died of cancer sometime in the early 1900's (after 1909).I don't know if I was of any help but would love to hear from you if any of this rings a bell with you or your family.Thank you and good luck with your search!
PS- Nellie had sisters but we don't know their names... :o(
Kathy
