Hi, Scott. I hope you are right. I never knew anything about my grandmother Helene except that she was german speaking, but did get a copy of the "return of a Marriage" that stated she was Helene Catherine Marie Ehlers, and her residence in Manhattan, NY was at 64 N. Moore. I have located that on mapquest. The marriage was January 5th 1873, and she was 25 yrs old, white, and born in Oldenburg. That would make her birth year abt. 1848, Her father's name was Johann Ehlers (can't make out the middle initial) and Mother was Helena C von Bernel. I have also located a Helene Ehlers that lived as a "maid" on Allen St. about 1.5 miles from the Moore address in Manhattan before that time, so think maybe she might have come over to be a servant. Just guessing. Johann Schultz, her husband, was listed as a Captain of a ship, living aboard a vessel. I have also found that there was an Ehlers who was the captain of a ship about that time, so am speculating. It is all a guessing game, but would love to prove relationship to at least someone out there! Thanks for your help. I can give information on all of her kids if you find someone who wants it. Betty
