My Grandmother Hannah Odessa Ehler Smith was born and raised in Guysborough County and married George R Smith Of Crows Harbor (now Queensport). A great source for Ehler history is "Guysborough Sketches And Essays" by A.C. Jost. The book is still available from the Guysborough Historical Society. Hannah is a descendant of John Ehler. John was a member of the Sixtieth Regiment - Royal Americans and was one of the 76 on the Muster Roll of 7/17/1784 in Halifax NS. The Sixtieth was made up of Germans (generally referred to as Hessians because so many originated in Hesse-Cassel & Hesse-Hanau) fighting for the English during the French & Indian Wars & the American Revolution. John was granted 200 acres of land in what is generally known as Guysborough County now but Chedabucto or Manchester then.

The Ehler lineage is traced in the "Sketches" and my Grandmother is listed at line 79 showing her marriage to our Grandfather George Smith.

Hope this helps.
