Dear Jack,
our story is quite similar. By the way my uncle's name was Jacques LEVI and his father raised my grand-father Isaac Abraham Levi brn in Egypt in 1887 because he lost his father and his mother when he was very young.
From what I know we always lived in Egypt but with different origins. From my maternal side, we were born french
(I still don't why). From my paternal side it seems we where italian from my grand father and tunisian from my paternal grandmother.
We were from Cairo and I for instance was born in Falaki street number 39. We used to form a very large family too. From my mother's side they were 7 children and 6 from my father's side.
In 1956 we had to leave the country because my mother was french and we all lived in Paris, France. Than I maried and now I live in Argentina.
We too have wonderful memories of Egypt and I went there just once in 1975. It was beyond words, it was just great for me because I felt just like I had come back home. Now as you say we all spread around the world and I don't know half of my family.
My grandmothers were : Hanan and Menahem. Both my grandfathers were Levi and Nathan.
Hope to hear from you,
best regards
HELENE
