Anora Egloff, Michigan

Hello Egloff researchers - I am looking for information on the family of my great-grandfather, William Michael Sanborn. He married Anora Egloff. Their daughter Anna Sanborn is my grandmother. The family was based in Michigan.

I am most curious about my great-grandfather's lineage prior to Michigan. We have only the scantest of details about this, as my grandmother was not given to sentiment or any particular interest in family history. I also think she was a bit scandalized that her grandmother was a "dancing girl" - that was the most she ever said about that.

William Sanborn's mother was, according to my grandmother, a dance hall girl. When she died, Will was given a few belongings and best wishes, and struck out on his own even though he was barely a teenager. We don't know if he had siblings who were fostered, or if his mother was widowed or single (and thus if the name Sanborn was a married name or not), or anything else. He traveled up to Canada and had many adventures in the North, and when he got older he moved to Detroit and took a job with Ford. That was where he met Anora and married.

I would dearly love to know more about Will's mother and her family if anyone has genealogical details. Since she was a dance hall girl it seems possible that she and her folks might be hard to turn up in the historical record, especially since we don't know any of their first names. I'm just hoping the story rings a bell for someone. Thank you!
