Dear Robin,

My name is Johnny Egdell. It was interesting to read your message on this site. With the passing of my grandfather Harvey Egdell 10 years ago and grandmother Mary Egdell this year, there exists only 4 Egdells here in Aotearoa NZ - My Immediate family are the only Egdells in NZ.
I have heard stories from my grandfather that his ancestors came from a small village in Northumberland, but that is all I really know about the name - well that and almost every beurocrat I deal with wanting to spell my name edgell. I have even recieved chequebooks with my name convienitently corrected to this spelling!. I wonder if other egdells have this dillemma also.
What I am interested in is any more information about my name, or if anyone knows anything of my ancestors who emigrated to New Zealand with my surname. I would also love to get a copy of the coat of arms, as it would give me great pride in prensenting it to my family.
Looking forward to any interesting replies,

Johnny Egdell
