Hey Guys,
I'm doing some research of my own and came across a District Inspector William A Egan of the R.I.C. It appears he was the successor for D.I. to Michael Hunt who was shot and killed in 1919. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/IRL-TIPPERARY/2006-09/1159110204http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/IRL-TIPPERARY/2006-09/1159110204
I have come across a few statements he made during the knocklong murder trials of 1919 (a case he was in charge of). He was stationed in Bruff Co. Limerick at the time.
The statements do not contain much more information but I can forward them to you if you want.
Another area you could have a look at is the bureau of military records. A quick look found a few interesting mentions of W A Egan and his brother. http://www.bureauofmilitaryhistory.ie/reels/bmh/BMH.WS0467.pdf#page=8http://www.bureauofmilitaryhistory.ie/reels/bmh/BMH.WS0467.pdf#page=8 (just seach his name)
Hope some of this helps.
N.
