Thank you, this could be the correct family, Sam and the two children may have died before the 1890 census. I could not find this family in Alabama at all but I do have them in Mississippi with P. P Channell in 1900.
Will try Alabama again and see what I get.

As far back as I can trace my Purvis and be certain is 1850 Marion County, Mississippi census. You can also find them in Pike and Walthall county Mississippi due to county line changes. It has been said they came through Alabama but I have been unable to prove that. That is my brickwall, if you could help knock it down I would appreciate it. My ggg-grandfather is James H. Purvis b 1812+- his wife is Sarah unknown.
