(1700’s) Edwards in Prince George, Brunswick, Southampton and Surry Counties, VA

Can someone tell me how (and if) the various Edwards that appear in the records below are connected to one another? In particular, I find very little written about the Edwards that appear in Prince George Co., VA records. Are they connected with those in Surry Co. and Southampton Co.?

Samuel Tatum, Sr. of Prince George Co., to Roger Taylor of same, for…, lets to said Taylor, 50 acres on south side of Second Swamp, bounded by Thomas Edwards, John Wandivan, Edw’d Batts [maybe, Edward Batte?] & John Barlo [John Barlow], for 3 years. Wit.: Fra. Coleman, Wm Rives, Robt. Bolling. Recorded: November 8, 1711.

Prince George Co., VA: September 11, 1721. William Ligon and Elizabeth his wife (one of the daughters of Capt. Henry Batte, dec’d) of County of Henrico to Moses Beck of Prince George Co., 236 acres in Prince George Co. bounded by Andrew Beck, Edward Stratton [Edward Stratton m. Ann Batte, daug. of Henry Batte d. prior to June 1, 1700], John Lanthrope, and Thomas Edwards, being that portion of land given to above named Elizabeth in will of Capt. Henry Batte [Henry Batte d. prior to June 1, 1700]. Wit.: Henry Batte [Henry Batte d. 1727], William Batte [William Batte d. 1755]. Recorded: Sept. 12, 1721.

Brunswick Co., VA: Will of Robert Hicks gentleman. 6 Mar. 1738/39. To my son Charles – all my land of 650 acres at the Indian Fort below where I now live joining Capt. Nathaniel Edwards & Batts [William Batte d. 1755]; ……………….…...Proved: 7 Feb. 1739.

Surry Co., VA: April 13, 1741. Charles Hicks of Brunswick Co. to Timothy Tharp [Timothy Thorpe] of Isle of Wright Co…650 acres on N side of Meherrin River and bounded by Rieves Swamp, William Batte [William Batte d. 1755], John Peterson, John Read [John Reed], James Wyche and Capt. Robert Hicks, Sr., deceased (being land granted to Robert Hicks, Sr. on January 2, 1737). Wit.: James Jones, Samuel Seward and John Brewer. Recorded: May 20, 1741.

Brunswick Co., VA: Will of John Betty, Clerk of St. Andrew Parish. 12 Jan. 1750/51. Mentions: niece Mary Betty, the daughter of William Betty; William MacKnight; brother William Betty. Executors: Col. Nathaniel Edwards, Col. John Willis. Wit.: Nathaniel Edwards, Edward Rowell, Robt Batts [probably, Robert Batte son of William Batte d. 1755]. Probated: 26 Mar. 1751. Probate indicates that Nathaniel Edwards qualified to execute with George Wyche his security.

Prince George Co., VA: November 18, 1758. John Lanthrop of Prince George Co., Tarburner, to William Edwards of same, Planter, for…, 100 acres on south side of Second Swamp, next to Joseph Lanthrope, William Lovesee, and Isaacs Branch. Wit.: Theophilus Field, Jr., William Baxter, William Batte Jr. [William Batte d. 1762] Recorded: September 11, 1759.

Wilkes Co., GA: Nicholas Lang [Nicholas Long?] and Rebeccka, his wife, sold to John Batts [maybe, John Batte?], State of Virginia, on 6 February 1793 for the sum of $400, two tracts of land in Greene County, formerly Washington County, granted to William Hearthhorne (?) and Peter Edwards 25 January 1785, 287 ½ acres each. Wit.: James Thwett [James Thweatt], Daniel Richardson and Boling Hall [Bolling Hall]. Recorded 17 September 1793.

Hancock Co., GA: 15th January 1801. James Thweat [James Thweatt] and Betsy Thweat [Betsy Thweatt] of Hancock County to Peterson Thweat of same place for the sum of twenty three hundred dollars for a tract of land on the Twelve Mile Beaverdam of Soulderbone Creek in Hancock County, formerly Washington County, containing four hundred and seventy five acres adjoining on the Wilkes County line and the said creek. Said land being part of two surveys granted to Wm Hearthern and Peter Edwards on 25th January 1785 for two hundred eighty seven and a half acre each. Wit: Jesse Grigg and U. Thweat and Jno. Wm. Devereux, J.P. Reg: 2nd May 1801

...regarding the above two deeds...each references a Peter Edwards...the referenced James Thweatt is connected with the Thweatt's in Brunswick Co., VA and Greensville Co., VA...The Thweatt family and Batte family owned lands adjacent one another in VA throughout the 1700's...beginning as early as 1682 when Henry Batte and James Thweatt jointly patented 673 acres in Charles City Co., VA (later Prince George Co., VA)...

Southampton Co., VA: October 23, 1762. Jesse Edwards to William Batts…110 acres on the south side of the main Blackwater Swamp adj. James Bullock and Goodson (purchased by sd. Jesse from Thomas Edwards on 14 May 1761), Wit.: Samuel Sebrell, Joseph Washington, and George Washington

…the William Batts above was the grandson of the William Batts d. 1742 in Surry Co., VA whose account of estate lists a William Edwards Sr...

Richard Bennett ye elder, of the Upper Par, of IOW Co, and with the free will and consent of my wife Ann, for a valuable consideration to me in hand paid, grant unto George Morrell of Lawnes Crk Par, Surry Co, 150 AC W/S Pokatmick Swamp in Surry co., the same parcel of land being part of 630 AC granted on Oct 22, 1682 adj.
