Joseph William (J.W) Atkins married Sallie Edwards in NC! This marriage took place in Hertford County, NC on 31 Jan 1901, according to the county marriage register, in the home of C. Whitley (also witnessed by 3 Whitleys - C.H., S.A., & J.A.). Bride and groom were 21 and 28, respectively. Offspring of this union (probably born in Como, NC) were: Annie Mae (1901) and Maude Elizabeth (1903), later marrying a Unk Hebert/Joe Harvil Harris/Joe Milford Atkinson and Paul Revere Julian, Sr, respectively. J.W. Atkins was son of John Benjamin Atkins and Mary Jayne Grantham (dau of William Grantham and Elizabeth Barnes. Sarah "Sallie"Elizabeth Edwards was dau of James H. Edwards and Roxanna "Roxy" Cobb, who were married in Gates Co, NC 10 Jan 1867. The James H. Edwards appear on 1880 census in the Newsoms district, Southampton Co, VA, including children Effie 12, Bobbie 10, Lillie 7, Anne 5, William R. 3, and Sarah(Sallie) E. 3/12.Roxanna died in 1886 and James died in 1889. Per James death cert., he apparently married after Roxy's death to Margaret, listed as consort. Death cert filed by William Scott, son in law.
