You have the wrong John Edwards as the son of Thomas Edwards, Jr. The one you refer to was born in NC, according to his Rev. War records. I know that other people have thought the same thing, but it is simply not true. There were seven different John Edwards in the Wilkes/Oglethorpe Co. of GA at the same time, and I went through the Wilkes Co. Tax Record books page by page listing each Edwards male and what district each was in to separate them and found that the one who lived beside Lucy Edwards, widow of Thomas, on the 1792/93 tax records was the John Edwards born in 1760 in VA. I very carefully followed the tax and land records of all the John Edwards in that area of GA. Thomas' son was John Edwards, born 1760 in VA and died 1839 in Troup Co., GA while he was living with his son Pryor Edwards. Lois McMichael has it wrong in her book also. I tried following her information and found that she had combined three different John Edwards to make one, who she called John Edwards, Jr. THAT John Edwards, Jr. did spend a short time in GA but was born in and died in either NC or SC, I forget which. I have researched every John Edwards that was in GA a LOT, but have been unable thus far to prove that my last proven ancestor, James E. Edwards (born 1786 in GA) who married Martha "Patsey" Hamilton in 1813 in Jasper Co., GA, was the son of John Edwards, born 1760, or ANY other John Edwards for that matter. Susan Jurban has the list of children of Thomas Edwards, Jr. correct as far as my research has shown; she has the birth date of John wrong, but I found the Bible records of Pryor Edwards, his son, so have an advantage. You have NO idea how much I wish that Lois McMichael was correct in her work, but when collecting records for the DAR, her information shows up real quick to be a combination of three different John Edwards. I am SO TIRED of researching for James' father; I researched John Edwards simply because of Lois McMichael's book and EVERY Edwards family tree that listed James as a son indicated that he was the son of John Edwards (or John Edwards, Jr.) and Ellen/Eleanor Prior. Pryor Edwards' mother was really Jean/Jane Morris; it's on his Bible records that his mother was Jane, and a will of Nimrod Morris lists John Edwards as his son-in-law. Prior Edwards witnessed that will in Jasper County, GA. Also, John Edwards married Jean/Jane Morris in 1783 in Henry Co., VA.
