DeEtta Edson NY > WI?>IA>SD
Do the names DeEtta Edson, b. abt. 1847 in NY (according to 1900 SD census); Rennselear L. Edson, d. Oct. 1861, Battle of Corinth, MS,; Harriet Edson, and Henry A. Edson ring any bells with anyone?
DeEtta is my gggm. She m. Roger A. Pierce, but I do not know the date, nor the state. My ggf was born in 1880, and the younger son, James A., was born abt. 1885, both in Iowa.DeEtta and Roger, and their daughter Anna and her husband, Joseph Polkinghorn, are all buried adjacent each other in Douglas Co., SD.
Roger A. Pierce and Rennselear L. Edson both joined the Wisc. Inf., Co. K, on the same day in 1861.Both gave their state of birth as New York when enlisting. Both gave the little town of Lamartine, Fond du Lac Co., Wisc. as their residence.
Buried in the Lamartine cemetery are: Renslar Edson, d. Oct. 1861 and noted as "Father"(may be Rensselear), Henry A. Edson, who was abt. 19 when he died in 1862.He had joined the Wisc. Cavalry, and Harriet Edson, d. much later, noted as "mother".[According to the Union national cemetery reference (can't remember title at the moment), Rensselaer was buried in the Corinth national cemetery, but no plot location was given.I checked the web site for that cemetery and he was not listed. The VA's response to my letter indicated that there was no record of his burial.]
Any suggestions or connections to this family, esp. DeEtta?
