Dear Char,
I have been seqrching for Nathaniel's background for several years. I can point you to Popenoe's wonderful articlce on the early American Edsall family history at:
http://www.popenoe.com/NYfamilies/Edsall.htm#_ftn1http://www.popenoe.com/NYfamilies/Edsall.htm#_ftn1
In this article, Nathaniel is said to have arrived in Wysox township, Luzerne (now Bradford) County, PA with Peter Edsall (a brother?) in 1795 from New Jersey.
Nathaniel married there (Millicent, last name undiscovered), started a family and then, between 1816 and 1819, moved on the Harrison township, Darke County OH. Children included James (1805-06?)and Lucy (1819); there were several other children, including a possible Samuel (1804).
Examination of the 1820 and 1830 US Census records reveals that Nathaniel was born between 1775 and 1780, somewhere in New Jersy (probably Sussex County). I've hit a wall trying to learn anything more about Nathaiel's parents.
I hope this information is helpful. If you discover any new information regarding Nathaniel's New Jersey family, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Phil Edsall, [email protected]
